Medical Record Coding

AE's credentialed and experienced coding professionals are available on an interim or long-term basis to assist you with all of your coding needs including inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, interventional radiology, and E&M coding. We can help to improve your organization's cash flow through the elimination and/or prevention of coding backlogs.

Audits

Compliance Audit
Our experienced auditors will review a representative sample of your organization's coded medical records to determine accuracy and completeness of the ICD-9-CM diagnosis and procedure codes used to assign the DRGs and determine payment. Results will be documented in a written report and discussed with your leadership.

APC and DRG Validation Audits
AE's experienced auditors will review a representative sample of charts which can include APC's and DRG's that are generally problematic or those that have been problematic for your facility. Attention will be given to codes assigned by coding staff in addition to codes assigned by the charge master and can include emergency department visits, ambulatory surgeries, hospital-based clinic visits, interventional radiology, and radiology. Our auditors will document their findings in a written report which will be reviewed with your organization.

Managed Care Risk Adjustment Audit
AE Auditors have the training, skills, and experience to audit your managed care charts for Hierarchical Conditions Categories (HCCs) for the dual dangers of incomplete coding and /or over coding. Audit results will be documented in a written report and reviewed with your staff. The review will include an educational session with physicians for future optimum and compliant reporting to CMS.

Recovery Audit
AE's skilled auditors will perform a coordinated audit utilizing the medical record and UB92 itemized bill to identify reimbursement errors. Our auditors will work with your staff to initiate recovery and follow-up appeals of identified errors.

Our skilled credentialed employees give you the freedom to focus on your patients while we provide complete billing and physician office revenue management including coding, bill generation, and collections.

Health Information Management

Our credentialed HIM professionals have extensive experience in health information management and they are available to assist you in a variety of areas including, but not limited to:

  • Performace of department assessments
  • Completion of special projects (policy and procedure manuals, system evaluations)
  • Provision of interim management
  • Staffing of Cancer Registry - code and abstract cancer cases for national reporting and monitoring
  • Leadership of accreditation preparation (JCAHO, AOA, Federal, State, and ACOS Cancer Registry)

Clerical Staffing

We have trained clerical staff to assist you in a variety of areas on an interim or long-term basis in such areas as:

Chart Assembly and/or Analysis our employees have the background, training, and experience to perform these tasks with minimal orientation

Filing – our employees can assist you with filing backlogs as well as ongoing filing needs

Scanning - our experienced staff can scan records for EHR implementation or simply help keep your scanning current.

Special Projects - our experienced employees can provide the extra help you need to complete a file room purge, HEDIS audit, data collection and other special projects.

Education

Clinical Documentation Improvement
We have trained physician/coders who can present educational sessions for case managers and physicians to help them improve their documentation and, as a result, improve organizational reimbursement and compliance.

Coding Education
We have credentialed instructors who serve on the faculty of the Tri-County Allied Health School which is the educational arm of AE & Associates, LLC.
